Věra Leininger

As a visual artist, a painting historian, a story-telling scriptwriter, an educator, and a researcher, I was placed by cultures between Czechoslovakia (I was born in Prague), Germany (I currently live in Cologne), and Singapore (where I left my heart). My paintings, mostly oils and acrylics, are influenced by the techniques of expressionism of my childhood art teacher’s generation, the academic artist, Helga Hošková-Weissová. Their content grew from my childhood memories, my work as a historian, a traveller, a dreamer … and because I understand visual arts in the context of communication, they have some stories to tell. I usually paint alla prima (technique at the first attempt) to catch the atmosphere of the moment, be it the smell of the frangipanis, a breeze at the seaside or just a dusty narrow road of an empty town.
